November 11, 2008 | 1 Comment Today is Remembrance Day in Canada, and this day also is Singles’ Day in China. Remembrance Day is the day for remembering the over 1000,000 Canadian soldiers who died in wars. Why November 11th was chosen? Because the First World War ended at 11 a.m. on November 11th. In Remembrance Day, there are Remembrance day ceremonies across Canada. Veterans March in parades to war memorials official place wreath and bugler plays. Before Remembrance Day, we often saw someone sell Remembrance Day poppies in the street. Those poppies are sold by donation. Why poppy was chosen as the symbol of Remembrance Day? During World war I, many dead Canadian soldiers were buried in an area of France and Belgium known as Flanders. In 1915, John McCrae, a Canadian military surgeon, noticed wild poppies growing in the cemetery field and wrote a poem called "In Flanders," beginning with the lines: In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the cross, row on row That is the reason that Red poppies grew around the graves of soldiers became the symbol of Remembrance Day, and now we can see the poppies pattern and the poem in the 10 dollar’s bill. ESL teacher told me that there were three ceremonies in Remembrance Day, but I have to work today. She also told me that everyone would stop everything one minute for Remember the soldiers who died in wars at 11 a.m. on November 11th, but boss didn’t stop me working.
